The Writers’ College Short Story Competition is open for submissions.
Submission Guidelines
- Theme: All the things we didn’t learn
- Open to unpublished writers or those with fewer than four publications, from any country
- Only one story per entrant.
- Entries must be written in English.
- Stories must be original and unpublished (including online).
- Max. 2,000 words
- All genres are welcome (literary, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, speculative fiction). Note: literary fiction tends to perform best

Entry fee: £8
Prizes:
- First prize: $1,000
- Second prize: $500
- Third prize: $250
Deadline: 30th September, 2025
Key dates: Longlist announced on 31st October and winners announced on 15th November.
