Landfall Tauraka Young Writers’ Essay Prize is open for submissions.

Submission Guidelines

• The competition is open to writers aged 16-25.
• Open to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
• Original essays that speak to life in Aotearoa today, from writers who are helping to shape what comes next.
• Any topic of the writer’s choosing.
• Max. length 1,500 words.
• One entry per person.

Judge: Editor of Landfall.

Entry fee: Free to enter

Prizes: The winner receives $1500 and a year’s subscription to Landfall.

Deadline: 31 March 2026
